Welcome to our class webpage!

Here you will find information regarding the children ’s learning as well as photographs of our year.  It will be updated regularly, so you can get an idea of life in Primary 5/6.  What a fun and busy environment it is!

 

We have had a great start to the school year, getting to know each other and settling in.

November/December

Literacy

We are learning to:

  • Read and identify the key features of ‘’Persuasive writing’
  • Write persuasively in letters, posters etc.
  • Speak persuasively
  • Understand bias
  • Check for grammatical sense and accuracy by re-reading own writing; identify errors and suggest alternative constructions
  • Identify /use commas appropriately
  • Understand the difference between direct and reported speech
  • Use alliteration to write persuasively
  • Identify homophones
  • Infer the meaning of unknown words

Numeracy

We are learning to:

  • Recite our times tables
  • Use division and multiplication to solve word problems
  • Gather /analyse data and create graphs
  • Read, write and sequence decimals
  • Recall analogue and digital times/solve problems based upon time
  • Solve problems by using the strategy ‘Make a conjecture’

 

World Around Us

We are learning to:

  • Identify local food products
  • Identify where food comes from and how it is transported
  • Recognise the main food groups
  • Understand the importance of a balanced diet
  • Explore the role of nutrients

The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum

 

On Wednesday we took a trip to Cultra to find out about life in the past.  Would you believe we even found a little piece of Tullylish when there.  We discovered a Bleach Green Tower which existed many years ago on the doorstep of our school.  Ask your child to tell you all about it.

MATHS WEEK 2025

 

Danske Bank came to our class to complete a workshop based on money and budgeting.  There was lots to learn

We played maths games and completed practical activities in the hall. 

We worked on measurement and perimeter!

PE 

2D Shape 

Over the last number of weeks we have learnt all about 2D shape.  We designed posters to reflect our learning.

Hunting for angles!

 

We have been using Pacman to hunt for different angles. 

Outdoor Learning

 

Primary 5 have been working on their times tables outdoors. 

Learning through play! 

We have been using games to work on our times tables. 

We have using games to practise the spelling of plurals.

September/October  

Literacy

We are learning to:

  • Check for grammatical sense and accuracy by re-reading own writing; identify errors and suggest alternative constructions
  • Identify synonyms and adjectives
  • Identify and spell plurals
  • Identify Verbs/adverbs

 

 

Numeracy

We are learning to:

  • Recite our times tables /divide
  • Revise addition/subtraction skills
  • Identify 2D shapes and their properties
  • Recognise and draw lines of symmetry
  • Identify angles
  • Measure and convert cm to m and vice versa
  • Calculate the perimeter of objects
  • Recall analogue and digital times/solve problems based on this
  • Solve word problems on all of the above
  • Solve problems by using the strategy ‘Using equipment and acting out’

 

World Around Us

We are learning to:

  • Identify what makes us individual
  • Identify the senses
