January & February


This month we are learning to:

  • Spell CVC words e.g., hat, box, sit etc.
  • Spell VCC words e.g., ant, ask, and etc.
  • Spell CVCC words e.g., hand, last, jump etc.
  • Read and spell High Frequency words
  • Identify and suggest rhyming words
  • Write sentences with full stops, capital letters and question marks
  • Use non-chronological reports during talking / listening and shared writing tasks.



This month we are learning to:

  • Count forwards and backwards within 20/50/100
  • Recognise, read and write numbers within 20/50/100
  • Add and subtract 0,1,2,3 within 10/20/30
  • Identify 2d and 3d shapes
  • Identify coins
  • Develop an understanding of 'light' and 'heavy’
  • Develop an understanding of ‘short’ and ‘long’
  • Help to create / complete a graph
  • Read information from a graph
  • Solve word problems based on what we learn
  • Solve problems based on the strategy ‘Using Equipment and Acting Out’.



World Around Us/Topic:

This month we are beginning our topic ‘People Who Help Us'. We will look at when we need help and how we can get it. We will research job roles including Police Officers, Paramedics and Fire Fighters.


Personal Development & Mutual Understanding

This month we are learning to:

Forgive. Forgiveness means different things to different people. But in general, it involves an intentional decision to let go of resentment and anger. The act that hurt or offended you might always be with you. But working on forgiveness can lessen that act's grip on you. This is an important lesson for children.


Thinking skills and Personal Capabilities

This month we are working on our ability to ‘Manage Information’.

We will aim to:

  • Work with a focus, ask and respond to questions to clarify the task
  • Select with help, information from materials and resources provided and suggest ways to obtain information
  • Follow directions in relation to a task
  • Begin to plan
  • Identify simple methods to record information
