Our trip to Peck and Pine

Still image for this video
P1 had a brilliant day learning outdoors - thank you to Kirsten and Ben at Peck and Pine for hosting us!

More pictures from our school trip!

We compared the length of puddlesuits and matched them to the sizes of children in our class. First, we used blocks and spools to measure the length of the puddle suit. Then, we drew around our bodies and used the same tools to see how tall we were. 10 frames helped us to count the number of spools. Amazing investigation work P1!

We used thumbs up/thumbs down to predict if materials would be waterproof - then put our ideas to the test!

P1 enjoyed a sensory story today as we used props and sounds to tell the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. After, we went outside and built beds for the bears and an obstacle course for Goldilocks to escape through!

Some of our P1's have been learning to blend by jumping from sound to sound and then saying the word!

Happy New Year!

Here is an overview of our Term 2 learning in P1:

Literacy

Our whole school focus is on non-chronological reports. This term, P1 will learn the features of non-chronological reports through the vehicle of traditional tales. Some of the stories we will cover include The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood.

We will also be applying our phonics knowledge to read and spell words and then sentences. We will continue to practice our letter formation and introduce writing on a line. We will start to learn some high frequency words that have irregular spelling patterns, making them difficult to 'sound out'.

Numeracy

This term we will look more in depth at our numbers to 10, practicing adding and subtracting and developing our knowledge of number bonds. We will be learning how to measure length, height and weight using non-standard measurement. We will keep practicing our number formation and learn the symbols that help to represent addition, subtraction and equals to.

World Around Us

This term we are investigating materials and learning about their properties. What is the best material to build a house? Why is it important to wear waterproof materials when it is raining outside?

The Arts

We are learning how to weave. Children will practice weaving ribbon, threading beads and using a weaving loom. We will use our weaving skills to make a giant tapestry in our classroom.

We are also looking forward to the launch of the Aspire shared education project and our outdoor learning trip to Peck and Pine!

We have been practicing our weaving skills - learning to pull the thread tight and weave it in and out

We are developing balance in our gymnastics lessons!

Happy Birthday!
