International Day of Play

17th Jun 2026
Today at school we were delighted to celebrate the International Day of Play!

It was a wonderful occasion where every child took part in a series of fun “carousel” activities, rotating through different stations full of creative challenges and opportunities for active, imaginative play.

Play is a vital part of a child’s development, and today’s celebration highlighted just how important it is. Through play, children develop key skills such as:

  • Social skills – learning to cooperate, share, and communicate with others
  • Emotional wellbeing – building confidence, resilience, and joy
  • Physical development – improving coordination, strength, and overall health
  • Creativity and imagination – exploring new ideas and solving problems in innovative ways
  • Cognitive growth – enhancing focus, memory, and decision-making skills

Activities like today’s carousel allow children to experience a wide variety of play styles, encouraging them to discover their interests while developing these essential skills in a fun and engaging way.

Many thanks to Mrs McConville and Miss Gibney for planning today's event.
