Vision, Mission and Core Values
As part of our preparation for our new School Development Plan, in January 2025, pupils, parents, staff and Board of Governors were canvassed for their views on the creation of vision and mission statements for our school, in order to articulate what our school represents.
Stakeholders were also asked to vote on their preferences for six core values for our school.
We are delighted to share our vision and mission statements below along with our six core values and their agreed definitions.
Our Vision Statement
Our vision is to strive to nurture every child to their full potential inspired by our school motto “Jesus Others Yourself” (JOY)
Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to be a happy, inclusive and safe school at the heart of the community inspired by our Catholic faith where children are challenged, inspired and empowered to achieve their full potential in becoming confident, successful young people equipped for a multi-cultural and technological society.
Our Core Values Definitions
Family
In our school, like a family, we care for each other, we work together, we support each other and we celebrate each other’s successes. St Colman’s Bann is one big family.
Enjoyment
Enjoyment means feeling happy and having fun when you do something you like. We should enjoy going to school when we learn, play and experience different things together. In St Colman’s Bann enjoyment means “Going to school with a smile on your face and coming home with a bigger one.”
Acceptance
Acceptance is accepting people and things as they are. It’s about including others, even if they look, think, or act differently from you, treating everyone with respect and seeing our differences as something to be celebrated. We accept and celebrate everyone in St Colman’s Bann.
Kindness
Kindness is being friendly, helpful, and caring to others. It’s doing something nice without expecting anything back, like sharing, helping someone, or saying kind words. In St Colman’s Bann we take every opportunity to show kindness to each other.
Community
Our school is a community of people who work, play and help each other. In St Colman’s Bann we share things, care for one another, and understand that we all have a role to play to make our community a place where everyone feels welcome and appreciated.
Resilience
Resilience means being strong inside and not giving up when things are hard. It’s about asking for help, learning from mistakes, and keeping a positive attitude even when something doesn’t go your way. In St Colman’s Bann resilience means changing “I can’t” to “I can’t yet!”
